Buying your first bike can be an exciting but overwhelming experience. Here are some key things you need to know about bikes before making your purchase

  1. Types of bikes: There are many different types of bikes available, each designed for specific riding styles and terrain. Common types of bikes include road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, and quick release bikes. Research the different types of bikes and consider what kind of riding you'll be doing before making your decision.
  2. Frame size: Getting the right frame size is crucial for a comfortable and safe ride. You can use online sizing guides or visit a bike shop to get measured and determine the right frame size for you.
  3. Brakes: When it comes to bikes, you can get different kinds of brakes.
    • Disc brakes: What is it?
Disc brakes are mounted on the hub and covers quite a broad area from the center and out. Most of our bike lights suit bicycles with disc brakes (SL100 fit with brakes up to 180mm in diameter and SL200 up to 160mm), however, AMS does not fit, as the bracket is not long enough. Also, you must be aware of choosing the model suitable for disc brakes, when choosing SL200 on the website.
    • V-brakes / Caliper brakes: What is it?
V-brakes and Caliper brakes are mounted on the top of the wheel. When positioned here, it does not interfere much with the bike lights, regardless of where they are placed. Therefore, most of our bike lights are suitable if you have a bike with either V-brakes or Caliper brakes
    • Roller brakes: What is it?
Do you have a bike with roller brakes then you can choose either bike light produced by us. The roller brake is positioned on the hub just like the disc brake, however, it is not as broad as the disc brake. Therefore, it does not interfere with the bike lights.
  4. Bike fit: A properly fitting bike is key to preventing discomfort or injury while riding. Consider getting a professional bike fitting to ensure that the bike is adjusted to fit your body and riding style.
  5. Components: Bikes come with a variety of components, such as gears, brakes, and suspension. These components can affect the bike's performance and price. Research the different options and consider what you need for the type of riding you'll be doing.
  6. Maintenance: All bikes require regular maintenance to stay in good condition and function properly. Consider the cost and time commitment of maintenance before making your purchase.
  7. Budget: Bikes can range in price from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. Consider your budget and how much you're willing to spend before making your decision.
  8. Safety equipment: In addition to a bike, you'll need safety equipment such as a helmet, lights, bell and reflective clothing. Be sure to budget for these items as well.
