The front and rear lights are powered by a dynamo, mounted on the seat stay. The bike light produces its own environmentally friendly induction power by means of a coil in the dynamo and magnets on the bicycle spokes – completely without the use of batteries. The lights are permanently mounted, so you always have them with you. The light is always on whenever you cycle, which makes you extra safe in traffic – day and night.

Description

The RL700 series has side position lights, which emit the light through small holes at angles of as much as 270°, greatly increasing visibility in traffic. Both the front and rear lights have E-approved reflectors. The front light is fitted to the fork crown above the front wheel. The rear light is fitted to either the luggage carrier or the seat post depending on which configuration you choose.

Magnet-powered bike lights mean no more flat batteries, no forgotten bike lights, no friction when you cycle – just lights which are always on and always safe.

Excellent light!

This is much better than the traditional Reelight - better position, and MUCH brighter. Worth the money and the installation time. Note: do not over-tighten the screws in the magnets, they can break, and are an odd size (not metric?)

Thanks a lot Alexander! Of course, we will replace the screw for the magnets at no cost if it breaks but this should not really be a worry.

An OK light kit to be seen, not to see

A leave-and-forget kit if you don’t want to bother with battery powered lights. The installation was somewhat simple. The design could be improved: the wire connectors inside the dynamo are flimsy, and the screws that secure the magnets to the spokes broke right away. The screws are not standard; I could not find replacements at either bike shop nor hardware store. I ended up drilling bigger holes on the magnets brackets, and installing bigger screws with locknuts on the other end. Lights are bright enough to be seen from distance, but the front light is weak and cannot really replace a bright battery operated light. So I ride slower at night; that gives me time to see the potholes in advance.
Overall a good priced, ok system

Thanks a bunch for your honest feedback, Hernan. The screws for the magnets are definitely not supposed to break that easily. We’d have been more than happy to replace them if you’d reached out sooner. As for the light output, it could be an issue with how the system is installed. If you could send us a few pictures of the system mounted on your bike, we’d be happy to take a look and help you out. Feel free to reach out to info@reelight.com.

fiability but fragility

I bought this product (ReelLight RL700 serie) years ago, and it is still working fine. I ride my bicycle everyday, from home to the office, and it is tremendously secure to know that you don't have to reload, that it will always work and give light.
The light isn't powerfull, but in town, it is sufficient.
The only inconvenient is the fragility of the materials ; plastics used are very very fragile and difficult (near impossible) to fix.
Anyway, it is a good product.
That is not the case for the Nova serie ; not very efficient, and gives you a shy light after 5 minutes of riding (way too long waiting when your life is at stake). So my advice: Rather buy RL700 serie instead of Nova serie.

Thanks a bunch for your feedback! If you need a replacement for any RL700 parts, we’re more than happy to assist you. Just drop us an email at info@reelight.com. As for your feedback on NOVA, the output of the two systems should actually be quite similar, so it might be an issue with the installation. If you have any questions or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for sharing your honest opinion. From your order, I can see that the products are from 2018, but the number of issues you’ve experienced seems excessive. We’re always happy to assist with spare parts, even if you’re out of warranty. Please send us an email at info@reelight.com with a few pictures of the faulty parts, and we’ll be glad to help you out. Thanks.
